At 100bb, 4-bet pots already create a large pot and a low SPR, so decisions quickly become simpler. But at 200bb, the story is a little different. SPR is still low, but because more stack remains behind, one small flop mistake can turn into major pressure on the turn and river.
OOP, in particular, has no position. You have to act first, and your opponent can apply pressure more accurately after seeing your action. So the core question in 200bb 4-bet pots is not, “I showed strength, so should I keep pushing?” It is, “What can my range actually do on this board?”
In 100bb CO vs BTN spots, the CO can put medium-high pairs like TT, JJ, and QQ into the 4-bet range more often. Thanks to the lower SPR, even when called, stacking off with an overpair is relatively straightforward, and responses to a 5-bet jam are clearer.
At 200bb, however, hands like TT and JJ fit less naturally into an OOP 4-bet range. When called, they often become awkward overpairs or underpairs across three postflop streets, and when facing a 5-bet, they are not comfortable enough to commit the full 200bb.
As a result, the 200bb OOP 4-bet range becomes more polarized. Strong value remains centered around QQ+ and AK, while bluff candidates shift toward hands with blockers and flush potential, such as A5s, A4s, KJs, QJs, and some suited connectors.
The reason 25%-50% pot sizing is frequently used in OOP 4-bet pots is simple.
First, the pot is already big. In a 200bb game, once a preflop 4-bet goes in, the flop pot is usually around 40bb. Betting just 13bb here already carries the weight of a large turn bet in a normal single-raised pot.
Second, SPR is low. If I bet 50% pot and my opponent calls, the turn is already close to an all-in structure. When I use a big bet, the point where I have to face a raise arrives too quickly.
Third, the OOP 4-bet range is already strong. Hands like AA, KK, QQ, and AK can extract value against the opponent’s weaker calling range without needing a large size. Strength does not have to be expressed only through big bets.
Flop Decision Order in OOP 4-Bet Pots
Boards like A72r and K84r are relatively comfortable for the OOP 4-bettor. The 4-bet range contains many hands like AK, AQ, A5s, and KQs, while the opponent’s BTN calling range still contains many medium pairs and suited broadways.
On these boards, both 100bb and 200bb strategies can use small c-bets at high frequency. Just 25%-33% pot is enough to put meaningful pressure on the opponent’s weak pairs and backdoor hands.
Boards like Q72r are generally not bad, but they are not as automatic as A-high and K-high boards. QQ is very strong, but AK misses, and BTN can have some QJs, KQs, and AQ. Still, in formations like CO vs BTN where the 4-bettor has many strong broadways, betting frequently is possible.
Boards like T98, 987, and J97 belong among the most uncomfortable textures for the OOP 4-bettor. Since OOP 4-bets TT and JJ less often at 200bb, they have fewer hands that connect directly with these boards than you might expect. By contrast, BTN may have called with suited connectors, suited broadways, and pocket pairs.
Here, checking is the natural default. The fact that you showed strength preflop does not mean you can force your way through low and connected boards.

765r is the type of flop where the OOP 4-bettor must be most cautious. Even overpairs like AA, KK, and QQ should mix betting and checking rather than automatically building a large pot. Roughly half the time, they can apply pressure with a half-pot bet, while the rest stay in the checking range to prevent the opponent from betting automatically.
Bluffs should not be made with any two cards. Hands with backdoor flushes, gutshots, two overcards, or backdoor straight potential come first. Air-like combos such as A5s with no real recovery path, or low suited connectors that missed, do not need to fight just because they were part of the preflop 4-bet range.
Post-preflop pot: 221.5 dollars = 44.3bb

QQ is essentially a top overpair on this board, making it a key value hand that can continue even under all-in pressure
933 two-tone is different from 765r. Even if OOP’s overall equity may be below half, high overpairs like QQ+ are much more concentrated in OOP’s range than in the opponent’s. So from an EV perspective, OOP captures a fairly large share. This is nut advantage.
That said, this does not mean you should keep betting every hand. The 200bb CO 4-bet range contains many big pairs, but not infinitely many. Therefore, betting priority goes to big pairs first, then flush draws, then good overcards with backdoor draws. Among AKo combos, those with a diamond, combining backdoor potential and blocker value, are better bluff candidates.
On A-high and K-high boards, bet small often. On Q-high boards, use high or medium frequency depending on position and ranges. On medium connected boards, check a lot. On low connected boards like 765r, even overpairs need to mix, and the weakest hands mostly give up. Low dry boards like 933 two-tone are better than they look, but you should still choose hands in a polarized way and use half pot.
If OOP checks often on low boards, the checking range must contain strong hands too. This is why QQ sometimes checks on 765r. You must not create a structure where, every time you check, the opponent can bet all their weak hands freely.
A good checking range contains weak A-highs, missed suited bluffs, some overpairs, and hands with backdoors. This makes it difficult for BTN to automatically steal the pot on the flop and allows OOP to defend on later streets as well.
In 200bb OOP 4-bet pots, small sizing is the starting point. Half pot or less already creates plenty of pressure, while large sizing ties your stack to the pot more riskily than necessary.
And the lower the board, the more honest you need to be. Good overpairs, flush draws, and overcards with backdoors can fight. But the moment you drag your weakest hands with no foundation into bluffs, the positional disadvantage of being deep-stacked becomes much more expensive.
