Big Blind Ante (BBA) increases steal profitability by 40–50%. Learn how to adjust your preflop ranges in ante environments.
An ante is a forced bet that every player must post on every hand. When antes are in play, the preflop pot grows larger, which significantly increases the profitability of opening and stealing.
The modern tournament standard (WSOP, WPT, etc.). The big blind posts the entire ante on behalf of the table.
| Factor | No Ante | With BBA |
|---|---|---|
| Preflop Pot (500/1000) | 1,500 | 2,500 |
| BTN 2bb Steal Profit (when successful) | 1,500 | 2,500 (67%↑) |
| Steal Break-Even Fold % | 57% | 44% |
| Position | No Ante | With Ante | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| UTG | ≈12% | ≈18–20% | +6–8% |
| CO | ≈25% | ≈30–33% | +5–8% |
| BTN | ≈42% | ≈50–55% | +8–13% |
When antes inflate the pot, the BB's pot odds improve as well.
→ The BB should defend wider.
